Thank you so much to Kathryn Chinchen (@Teach_on_beach) for sharing these great starters, they can be downloaded as a pdf but even better if you have Powerpoint they can then be edited.
The original cup and ball idea and development came from Liz Gibbs, who is an Author, independent national & international mathematics adviser/trainer. The cups can be found in Tescos if you would like to make this a more concrete version. Thank you so much for sharing Liz, If you would like to find out more about Liz and her work please follow this link.

Another brilliant resource from Gareth Whalley:
If used daily from the start of Year 5 and supported by parents at home, the kids would be well prepared for using the PDF files of SATs questions with Youtube link buttons that we rolled out last year. The “One A Day” file attached is a colourful single pdf file containing a hyperlink to a different video on the Youtube channel for every day of the year (old level 3-5 questions), but there are also links for “Thinking Outside the Box” puzzle videos which kids love (in the hope to get them more hooked) and links for “Extension” videos for the more able which would be the old Level 6 SATs questions. I have branded it with lots of colourful fruit and vegetables in the hope that kids will associate doing maths with a healthy mind and a healthy appetite for maths. They are called “Vidamins” in a play on words mini-videos which I thought would be a good hashtag to use on Twitter!. There are also monthly record sheets for parents/ teachers to tick off if a student has watched the video much like reading records get checked in English. Teachers could use the file as a 5 minute video starter every day or use to set the students a 5 minute homework every day and could be placed easily on school websites for ease of access.
